DIOCESAN GENERAL BODY

As is the regulations laid out in the Church Constitution, every diocese of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church has a Diocesan Assembly. The Diocesan Assembly (General Body) is the representation of all parishes in the Diocese.

 

The Diocesan General Body of the Diocese of UK-Europe and Africa meets atleast once a year unless otherwise deemed appropriate by the Diocesan Metropolitan. Diocesan Metropolitan HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios who is the President of the Diocesan Assembly, presides over the assembly meetings. Although matters related to the spiritual growth of the Diocese are discussed, the Diocesan Assembly is primarily constituted to discuss and decide upon matters relating to the temporal and physical administration of the Diocese, such as budgeting, accounting and activity planning. Each parish of the Diocese is represented at the Assembly by their Vicar and a certain number of elected laity, based on the number of parishioners. The term of all Diocesan Assembly delegates are five years. Certain special invittees are also invited the the General Body Meetings as per the discretion of the Diocesan Metropolitan

 

The Annual General Meeting of the Diocesan Assembly was last held on April 29, 2017 was hosted by the Oxford St. Mary's Parish. The new Diocesan Council was elected at this meeting. It was presided by HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios. Fr. Happy Jacob was elected as the new Diocesan Secretary who succeeds Fr. Varghese Mathew who served as Diocesan Secretray during the previous term.

 

DIOCESAN COUNCIL

As is the regulations laid out in the Church Constitution, every Diocese of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church has a Diocesan Council presided by the Diocesan Metropolitan.

 

The Diocesan Council consists of two priests and proportionately representative laymen who are elected by the Diocesan Assembly, along with the Diocesan Secretary. The term of their office is five years. The Diocesan Secretary, who also functions as the secretary of the Diocesan Assembly, is also the secretary to the Diocesan Council. The Diocesan Metropolitan convenes the Council and presides over the council meeting.

 

The current Diocesan Council has been elected for the 2017-2022 term at the Annual General Body meeting held at Oxford in UK on April 29th, 2017. The following members were elected to the Diocesan Council: 

 

 

CENTRAL MANAGING COMMITTEE REPRESENTATION

The Managing Committee is a smaller representative body consisting of all bishops as well as both priests and lay people who are elected by each Diocese of the Malankara Church for a period of five years. Other than the elected members, a proportionate number of members are nominated to the Managing Committee by the Malankara Metropolitan. It is the Managing Committee that assists in the financial and administrative matters of the Holy Church. The members of the Working Committee are also members of the Managing Committee:

Vice Presidents and Coordinators
